HAHN'S NEW SUCCESS IS "CYCLES
GLADIATOR"
May 2,
2006 — Soledad, California - After brief test marketing,
Hahn Estates is moving Cycles Gladiator, its new line of
Central Coast varietals, into national distribution this
month. After having sold the HRM Rex Goliath brand to
Constellation last year, Hahn president Bill Leigon says,
"Cycles Gladiator is the most successful introduction in our
history; trade response and media reaction have been
golden." Sales are expected to reach as many as 150,000
cases in its first year.
With its
Belle Époque poster label of a woman with long flowing hair
accelerating on an end-of-the-century newly popular bicycle,
Cycles Gladiator "speaks to the burst of energy at the end
of the l9th century, with its new freedom for women," Leigon
says. The new wine brand begins with five varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and
Syrah.
The
brand takes its name and striking imagery from the famous
Parisian Art poster 'Cycles Gladiator' created in 1895.
Initially designed to advertise "Le Bicycle Velocipede" a
modern bicycle launched by the Parisian company 'Gladiator'
during the high point of the cycling craze, the image came
to symbolize a celebration of freedom and happiness that
pervaded Europe during the 'Belle Époque' period.
